The Line: Betting Odds: FIU — Over/Under:
The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and FIU Panthers meet Friday in college football action at Pitbull Stadium. Here’s a Bethune-Cookman vs FIU Prediction. This article will include a Bethune-Cookman vs FIU Pick.
Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Betting Preview
Bethune-Cookman won two games last season and enter the third year under coach Raymond Woodie Jr. Bethune-Cookman has won a combined seven games in the last three years.
Bethune-Cookman made a splash by snagging quarterback Timothy McClain, who previously played for USF, UCF, and Arkansas State. McClain had his best season with USF in 2021, but he’s an experienced player who has faced big competition. QB Amari Jones also comes over from FIU. Bethune-Cookman brings in wide receivers in Javin Dames (Bryant) and Josh Evans (Middle Tennessee). There’s potential with this offense, especially if McClain can hit the ground running and finally find a stable home.
Defensively, coordinator Robert Wimberly returns for his third season and will be helped by Otis Mound. This unit was good a season ago. Defensive lineman Laron Davis comes over from Charleston Southern and Abram Fofana is a transfer from Stetson. This side of the ball will be a work in progress. Bethune-Cookman hasn’t had a winning season since 2019 when it won seven games.
FIU Panthers Betting Preview
The FIU Panthers have won four games in each of the last three years, and have won a combined 13 games since the 2020 season. FIU now begins the Willie Simmons era, and he’s had success in previous head coaching gigs.
FIU returns just two offensive starters, but one of those players is quarterback Keyone Jenkins, who has nearly 5,000 passing yards and 33 touchdowns for his career. Kejon Owens has been a stable running back over the last two seasons, and Anthony Carrie comes over from Georgia Tech. Alex Perry is a big play receiver who transferred from Hawaii, averaging 18.9 yards per catch on 48 receptions. FIU has been a bad team on both sides of the ball, but there are playmakers on offense and could make this group worth watching for a change.
Defensively, FIU also returns just two starters, but defensive back Brian Blades II and linebacker Keegan Davis are strong building blocks. Safety Wesley Hill is back after transferring to Illinois. Linebacker Johnny Chaney Jr. comes from Colorado, while Lamont Green Jr. and Dante Anderson both transfer from Florida State. Coordinator Jovan Dewitt probably has the most talent he’s had in four seasons with FIU, it’s just a matter of it coming together. FIU will have its chances to top four wins for the first time since the 2019 season, which was the last time the Panthers made a bowl appearance.

Bethune-Cookman vs FIU Prediction
I’m not thrilled to get involved with FIU if forced to lay a big number, but this is a game the Panthers should win comfortably. While FIU has had its issues in the FBS ranks, Bethune Cookman isn’t any better in FCS competition. FIU has a proven quarterback and that should be the difference in this game. This game could be ugly, but FIU should win by double digits. If it doesn’t, it’s going to be another long season. Assuming the line isn’t nuts, give me FIU and the chalk.
