Marshall Thundering Herd
The Herd only managed to win nine of their first 20 games in a 9-11 start. A 3-1 stretch followed with wins over Georgia State, Soutehrn Miss and Coastal Carolina. Marshall took losses to Troy, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, James Madison and Appalachian State again in the next five.
Matched up against Georgia Southern on Wednesday, the Herd were within one point by halftime. Marshall was outscored 44-31 the rest of the way however and ended up falling 87-73. Kevon Voyles topped the team with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists along the way.
Georgia State Panthers
Over on the Panthers’ side, they got off to a 9-7 run to begin the season. Georgia State lost to Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Marshall, Coastal Carolina and Troy in the next six. A 4-2 stretch came afterward with victories over Louisiana, Miami-OH, Old Dominion and Coastal Carolina.
In their Wednesday game against James Madison, the Panthers went into the break trailing by four points. Georgia State posted a 38-36 deficit the rest of the way and lost 84-78 in the end. Lucas Taylor led the way on his 18 points, three rebounds and two assists in the defeat.
ANDREW’S FREE MARSHALL VS GEORGIA STATE PREDICTION
I’ll just stick with Georgia State. There’s not a lot to get excited about here with both teams struggling, though. The Panthers didn’t shoot very well (37.5 percent) or rebound very well (a 39-29 deficit) in their latest loss to a very good James Madison team. That said, Georgia State’s free-throw shooting (90.6 percent) was solid. The Panthers only had four turnovers as well.
The Panthers took a 77-68 road loss the last time these teams met up back on January 24. The loss was mostly due to a bad second half (48-38) and 13 turnovers. The Herd are giving up quite a bit of scoring these days, so Georgia State should have plenty of room to post points. I like the Panthers a little better in the rematch. I’m probably staying away, though.
