The Richmond Spiders and the George Mason Patriots meet Saturday in college basketball action from EagleBank Arena. Let’s get into our Richmond vs. George Mason prediction. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Pick Dawgz.
Richmond Spiders
The Spiders’ year kicked off on a 16-5 run through their first 21 games. Richmond would then lose two of three to VCU and UMass. Since then it’s been six straight victories over George Washington, Rhode Island, Davidson, Saint Louis, VCU and Saint Joseph’s in succession.
In the Saint Joesph’s matchup on Wednesday, the Spiders held a 36-27 edge in the first half. Richmond was outscored 39-37 the rest of the way but held on for the win 73-66 in the end. Neal Quinn was tops on 21 points with four rebounds and four assists in the victory.
George Mason Patriots
Over on the Patriots’ side, they were 15-5 over their first 20 games. George Mason would go 3-3 over the next six with losses to Saint Joseph’s, UMass and Loyola. Over the last four, the Patriots are 1-3 with losses to Loyola, Fordham and Duquesne before a win over Rhode Island.
In the Rhode Island game on Wednesday, the Patriots went into the locker room with a 32-23 edge. George Mason kept it up from there on a 37-28 run and took the win 69-51. Darius Maddox was the leading team scorer on 21 points with six boards and two steals.
ANDREW’S FREE RICHMOND VS GEORGE MASON PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Richmond. The Spiders put together a pretty solid all-around effort against Saint Joseph’s with 46.4 percent shooting, 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the line, 33 rebounds and just nine turnovers. During this 6-0 run Richmond has posted 73 or more points in all but one game.
In their last meeting with George Mason back on January 13, the Spiders powered out a 77-70 win at home. Richmond got outmuscled on the boards 32-26 in that one but also made 19-of-21 (90.5 percent) from the line and had only seven turnovers. The Spiders should have a trickier time in the road rematch but I think they can cover/win if all goes well.
