Troy Trojans
The Trojans hit an 11-6 run to start the year, then took losses to South Alabama and Southern Miss in late January. Troy went 8-2 over the next 10 with wins over Texas State, South Alabama, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, Kent State and LA-Monroe in that stretch.
In the Louisiana game on Wednesday, the Trojans went into halftime with a 43-39 edge. Troy kept it up in the second with a 44-34 run and took the win 87-73 in the end. Christyon Eugene led the way with his 18 points and eight boards in 30 minutes of action.
Texas State Bobcats
Over on the Bobcats’ side, they managed to go 7-14 through 21 games to kick off the season. In their last nine Texas State is 6-3, however. The wins during that time have come versus South Alabama, Southern Miss, Appalachian State, Ball State, Georgia State and LA-Monroe.
Matched up against the Warhawks on Tuesday, Texas State got off to a nice start. The Bobcats were up 41-25 by the break, then cruised on 32 more points for a 73-55 victory in the end. Jordan Mason led the team in scoring with his 13 points and five rebounds in 31 minutes of work.
ANDREW’S FREE TROY VS TEXAS STATE PREDICTION
I’ll stick with Troy. The Trojans put up a solid win versus a decent Louisiana team on Wednesday. In that one Troy didn’t shoot very well from the field (38.5 percent). That said, the Trojans hit 90.5 percent from the line and scored 29 points off 20 Cajuns turnovers. Troy had 15 turnovers (for 18 points) themselves however, so they’ll need to watch the ball control on Friday.
In the last meeting between these teams back on January 24, Troy took a 78-65 home win. The Trojans shot a blistering 54.2 percent from the field and scored 24 points off Texas State’s 15 turnovers. The Bobcats will probably put up more of a fight in the home rematch but Troy should be good enough to cover if the Trojans play to their capabilities.
