Home Run Derby 2021 MLB Picks and Predictions

The All-Star festivities are taking place at Coors Field, and on Monday night it’s the Home Run Derby that is going to be center stage. With this taking place in the elevation, it should add even more excitement to the derby/ Let’s take a look at who is going to win the home run derby/ 

No. 1 Shohei Ohtani (-200) vs. No. 8 Juan Soto (+170) 

There isn’t a whole lot of value with taking Shohei Ohtani, but there is also isn’t a scenario where I see him losing this first round. With this being at Coors Field, it’s only going to make it easier for Ohtani to hit bombs. Look for Ohtani to come away with the first-round victory. 

Pick: Shohei Ohtani (-200)

No. 4 Salvador Perez (+165) vs. No. 5 Pete Alonso (-200)

Pete Alonso on the season has hit 17 home runs while Salvador Perez. Two years ago, Alonso won the home run derby, and this moment isn’t going to be too big for him. Look for Alonso to hit some bombs that go deep into the mile-high air, and he will advance out of the first round over Perez. 

Pick: Pete Alonso (-200)

No. 2 Joey Gallo (-165) vs. No. 7 Trevor Story (+140)

Tre underdog on paper might be Trevor Story, but he has the home-field advantage with him. The entire crowd is going to be behind him, and although that might create extra pressure I still think he finds success in this one. Story has hit only 11 home runs this season, but he is still going to put on a show in thes first round. 

Pick: Trevor Story (+140)

No. 3 Matt Olson (-200) vs. No. 6 Trey Mancini (+164)

Trey Mancini comes into the home run derby having hit 16 home runs, while Matt Olson has already hit 21 out of the ballpark. Olson is the big favorite, but this is a spot I actually really like Mancini. Mancini should also have some crowd support behind him, and he will pull off hte first round upset. 

Pick: Trey Mancini (+164)

Home Run Derby WInner: 

Ohtani is the big favorite to win the Home Run Derby sitting at only +325, but I don’t think he gets it done. This eels like a situation where Ohtani is strong early, but as the derby goes on, he runs out of gas. Remember the year Josh Hamilton broke the Home Run Derby record but Justin Morneau still won it. Instead I turn my attention to Trevor Story who sits around +700. Story is comfortable hitting at Coors Field, and he is going to step up to the occasion. Back Story at +700/
