Springs is coming into this game with a 10–11 record and a 4.17 ERA over 166 innings, striking out 135 batters while posting a 1.22 WHIP. Opponents are averaging just 88.2 mph in exit velocity and producing a 37.4% hard-hit rate. He allowed an 8.3% barrel rate. On paper, Springs’ numbers aren’t that bad, but once you dig deeper, you’ll see that these are the spots he struggles in. He’s really struggled at home, coming into this one with a 5.00 ERA when pitching in Sacramento. This is an important series for the Astros, and with them losing 6 straight games, I see Houston coming into this one with some extra juice.

Williams has recorded 6+ strikeouts in 3 of his last 4 starts and is coming off a start where he recorded 9 strikeouts against this same Tigers team. The Tigers have looked lethargic at the plate where whereas everything is clicking for this Cleveland team. I like Gavin Williams to keep up his success in this one.

Opposing hitters averaged 91 mph in exit velocity with a 42.2% hard-hit rate and an 8.1% barrel percentage, suggesting he allowed more solid contact than ideal, but he’s doing a great job at limiting runs. He especially been great in New York, where he has a 2.11 ERA. He’s gone 16+ innings in 3 of his last 5 starts and has a great matchup going against the White Sox, who have been terrible at the plate this season.
