Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva meet in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Italian Open Rome on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Here’s our Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva prediction. This preview will also include a Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva pick.
Coco Gauff Preview
Coco Gauff is the fourth seed in Rome and is coming off a straight-sets win over Emma Raducanu. In a battle between two former US Open champions, Gauff was simply superior to Raducanu on every level. The American dropped just three games in a very one-sided match that lasted 81 minutes. Gauff compiled four aces and three double faults. She landed 63% of first serves in play and won 76% of first serve points (28/37). Gauff won 50% of second serve points (11/22) and saved all three breakpoints she faced.
Gauff won two matches before this. She defeated Canadian young talent Victoria Mboko in her opening match in three sets. Then in the third round, she beat Magda Linette 7-5, 6-3. Her recent victory over Raducanu was her most comprehensive of the tournament. She is seeking her third career semifinal at the Italian Open.
Mirra Andreeva Preview
Mirra Andreeva is the seventh seed in Rome and is competing in her second main draw at the Italian Open. Last year, she was knocked out in the first round, but has reached the quarterfinals this week. Andreeva received a bye in the first round and started the tournament with a straight-sets win over Emiliana Arango. In the third round, she overcame Linda Noskova 6-1, 7-5.
Andreeva dropped her first set of the tournament in the last 16 against Clara Tauson, but recovered to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. The match lasted two hours and 36 minutes. Andreeva tallied two aces and four double faults. She landed 66% of first serves in play and won 73% of first serve points (49/67). Andreeva won 50% of second serve points (17/34) and saved eight of 10 breakpoints. Andreeva could break the top 5 for the first time, but must win the Italian Open. The young Russian is 7-2 on clay this term.
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva Head-To-Head
Gauff and Andreeva have met three times on the WTA level. Gauff leads Andreeva 3-0 and is 2-0 on clay.
Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva Prediction
It’s been touted as a rivalry that could define the new era of women’s tennis. But so far, it’s been heavily dominated by Gauff, who is a perfect 3-0 and defeated Andreeva in straight sets in their last meeting over a week ago in Madrid. The American’s dominance is rooted in strategy. She’s been the most comfortable top 5 player who has enjoyed great success against Andreeva so far. Gauff’s defensive skills and movement are top-notch, and she uses those to neutralize Andreeva’s ability to dictate points. The fourth seed hasn’t shown any profligacy during the tournament to indicate she’ll throw away her previous 3-0 H2H record.
