Jannik Sinner and Jasper De Jong meet in the third round of the 2025 Italian Open Rome on Monday, May 12, 2025. Here’s our Jannik Sinner vs Jasper De Jong prediction. This preview will also include a Jannik Sinner vs Jasper De Jong pick.

Jannik Sinner Preview

Jannik Sinner secured an excellent win in his first match since the Australian Open. The World No. 1 defeated Argentina’s Mariano Navone in straight sets to reach the third round of the Italian Open. Sinner, who was out of action serving a three-month doping suspension, was quick to settle and produced a no-nonsense performance, dropping his serve only once in the contest. He wrapped up a 6-3, 6-4 win in under two hours.

Sinner’s best result in Rome was a quarterfinal run back in 2022. He missed this tournament last season because of injury. This is his first clay-court tournament since a French Open semifinal defeat to Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner’s unbeaten start to the season continues, although he has played just one tournament before this week, and that was the Australian Open, which he won pretty convincingly to lift his third Grand Slam. He is now 22-0 dating back to the end of last season when he swept titles in Shanghai, the ATP Finals, and Davis Cup. He has lost once since September.

Jesper De Jong Preview

Jesper De Jong is coming off a sensational 6-0, 6-2 win over 25th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Dutch lucky loser spent 68 minutes registering his second main draw win of the tournament. De Jong fired 15 winners and 11 unforced errors in the match, including two aces and one double fault. He landed 67% of first serves in play and won 77% of first serve points (23/30).

De Jong won 33% of second serve points (5/15) and saved three of four breakpoints in the match. In the first round, he accounted for a win over Alexander Shevchenko. De Jong improves to 13-9 on clay this season, and this is officially his best run in Rome.

Jannik Sinner vs Jasper De Jong Head-To-Head

Sinner and De Jong have met once. The Italian won that match in straight sets en route to his first Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open.

Jannik Sinner vs Jasper De Jong Prediction

On paper, this looks like a lopsided match. Sinner is the world No. 1 and a winning machine for over a year now. He’s 22-0 since September, but he hasn’t played a match before this week for three months. He didn’t look overly out of touch in his first match against Navone, and you suspect his level will get better as the tournament progresses. That said, we are backing another straight sets win that should at least feature 18 games.

Nur Said's Pick: Sinner to win AND over 17.5 games
