Jannik Sinner dropped a set for the first time this week in the third round victory against Denis Shapovalov. Sinner was broken at the very end of the first set by the Canadian, who clinched the set 7-5. Bublik hit 70 winners in total, including 22 aces. He compiled 55 unforced errors, including 12 double faults. Bublik landed 61% of first serves in play and won 83% of first serve points (91/110). He won 52% of second serve points (36/69) and saved all six break points he faced in the match. Bublik had not played any warm-up tournaments before the US Open and is on an 11-match winning streak following his two title wins on clay in Gstaad and Kitzbuhel last month.

He’s one of the most mercurial players on tour and can be erratic in an instant. He’ll be competitive for at least a set and a half and likely wilt. Sinner should easily make it to the last eight.
